(Edit.) In the Minnesota Legislature the issue that will affect everyone will be how to deal with a budget shortfall of $161 million to more than $250 million. If they spend down a large portion of the $550 million reserve and don't cut programs the state will be at risk.

On a 4-3 vote the Brainerd City Council turned down a plan for repair and improvement of the old water tower because a Northern Pacific lease for the site hadn't been secured. Brainerd hopes to get a $48,000 federal grant to help with the $96,000 project.

The 1950 March of Dimes campaign will be the biggest ever held in Crow Wing county. Chairman Roy Winkler said that returns already totaled $4,627 which is 10 times the 1949 campaign total of $483.
80 years ago (1930)
Oil stations and garages throughout the city announced today a drop in the price of gasoline by two cents a gallon. Gas is now selling here at 23.1 cents a gallon for high test and 20.1 cents a gallon for low test.
100 years ago (1910)
It is apparently too cold to even get married these days. Only two marriage licenses have thus far been issued from the office of the clerk of district court in this city during the present month, and none in the past week.
