Three TV ads produced by Russell & Herder won national Telly Awards, while a Web site the agency developed for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system won a Gold Award in the 16th Annual Admissions Marketing Report Advertising Awards.
In the Telly Awards competition, Russell & Herder won Finalist Awards for two ads produced for Midwest Wireless - "Pushing the Limit" and "Setting the Standard" - and a third Finalist Award for the "Get More Future" ad that was produced for MnSCU.
Founded in 1980, the Telly Awards showcase outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials. More than 11,000 entries were submitted this year, many of which were for national brands.

Two join Brainerd Insurance Agency
Two employees, Jodie Stangel and Melissa Adair, joined the Brainerd Insurance Agency.
Stangel will assist in the commercial lines department. She has a strong management background. Adair will work with the personnel lines department. She is fully licensed in property, casual, life and health. She has 17 years of insurance experience.
Former area resident accepts award
Michael Palmer, formerly of Brainerd, recently accepted the 2000 Outstanding Business Award for Community Involvement for the Embassy Suites Hotel in South San Francisco.
Palmer, general manager, accepted the award. The hotel was recognized for contributions to the community from charity events to employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Palmer is the son of Harold and Darlene Palmer and a graduate of Brainerd High School and Brainerd Community College.
Bjerga joins Northland Auto Co.
Bob Bjerga joined Northland Auto Co.'s sales staff.
He has six years of automobile sales experience in the Brainerd and Pine River areas.
CHOW Time lunch set in Brainerd
The Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce is hosting the February CHOW Time event from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.
The event is sponsored by the Nisswa Grille Coffee & Raw Bar, 538 Main Street, Nisswa.

Sarff attends conference
Val Sarff, doctor of chiropractic, Brainerd Chiropractic Clinic, recently attended the annual Northwestern Health Services University postgraduate conference.
Topics included radiography, myofascial release of the cervical spine, torticollis or "rye" neck treatment, therapeutic stretching, healthy aging nutrition. The program was offered to assist doctors of chiropractic in attaining required continuing education hours.
Short courses offered at CLC
The Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd and Staples, has announced that registration is under way for several upcoming short courses offered through the Customized Training Department:
--Establishing Teams - The Agony & Ecstasy, 7:30-11:30 a.m., March 9. The class is aimed at organizations seeking to improve productivity through teamwork. Learn how to ensure ecstasy and avoid agony. Teams are not the answer to every question or problem in an organization. Learn when and how to create effective teams in your organization. Learn from case studies and examples of what works and what doesn't. Fee: $55. Instructors: Dick and Diane Beal. Location: Business & Industry Center, Brainerd campus.
-- Food Manager certification, 5-9 p.m., March 6, March 8 and March 13. A Certified Food Manager is required in most Minnesota food establishments. -- Real Estate series, 6-10 p.m., Real Estate I, Feb. 26-March 13. Course and the following three are required as prerequisites to obtaining the Minnesota Real Estate License. Subjects covered: listings, contracts, agencies, purchase agreements, and financing. Book covers Real Estate I, II, & III. Fee: $230 (includes book used in Real Estate I, II and III). -- Real Estate III, April 3-19. The first four nights (15 hours) cover purchase agreements and financing. The last four nights (15 hours) cover closing procedures and real estate law. -- Traumatic Brain Injury, 6:30- 9:30 p.m. March 8 and 15. This course is designed for staff in vocational, educational, residential and other support services who work with survivors of traumatic brain injury. Participants will learn, through lecture, videos, discussion and group problem-solving, basic information about TBI and practice strategies for working with this unique population. Fee: $40.
