The Lakes Area Law Enforcement Committee, made up of graduates from the past three years of the Brainerd Police Academy and one year from the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Council, has elected its committee officers for the second four-year term.
President is Jerry Ring, vice president is Pam Winterfeldt while Susan Menk is secretary/treasurer.
Samuelson to hold town meetings in Brainerd, Baxter
Sen. Don Samuelson, DFL-Brainerd, will conduct town meetings from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Brainerd City Hall and from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Baxter City Hall to discuss issues before the 2000 Legislature.
YMCA Charity Ball set
Saturday at Cragun's Resort
The fifth annual YMCA Charity Ball will start with a 7 p.m. social hour Saturday at Cragun's Resort.
Entertainment, featuring music by the Fantastic Convertibles, will be from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Tickets are $50 per person. They may be purchased at the YMCA or at the door.
Entertainment also includes a funny money casino, a celebrity silent auction and a chance to win a Costa Rican vacation.

YMCA offering CPR,
first aid courses
The Brainerd Family YMCA will offer an American Heart Association CPR course from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 9 at the YMCA.
Cost for YMCA members is $35 and for community members is $40.
The YMCA will also offer an AHA first aid course. This course includes general first aid and can be tailored to meet the participants' needs. The class will meet from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m. March 16. Cost is $40 for YMCA members and $45 for community members.
Participants will receive certifications upon completion of the courses. Class sizes are limited and must be paid for at the time of registration. For more information and to register, contact Jane at the YMCA at 829-4767.
Fan bus to Kixters state dance team competition scheduled
A fan bus will be available for those interested in cheering on the Brainerd Kixters at the state dance team competition Saturday.
A fan bus already has 17 riders but needs about 15 more to make it a go. The bus will leave Brainerd High School at the north doors at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Tickets must be purchased from Paul Pecarich in advance at the high school.
The event begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities. The bus will return to Brainerd at around 11 p.m. Saturday.
