The Mille Lacs Kite Crossing is scheduled Feb. 29 through March 2 on Garrison Bay in Garrison.
The race is a long-distance, kite endurance event. The course will be determined by the committee, based on the conditions of the day. Details will be provided at the mandatory kiter's meeting at 10:45 a.m. March 1.
Course distances will range from 20 miles to shorter courses. Snowmobile support will be provided along the course. Participants must wear helmets.
Awards will be based on time finishes and presented at the awards ceremony March 2.
The weekend schedule:
Feb. 29: Free rides all day; kite demos on Garrison Bay at 1 p.m., welcome party at 7 p.m. at the Y Club.
March 1: Free rides all day; registration and check in on Garrison Bay at 9:30 a.m.; kiter's meeting on Garrison Bay at 10:45 a.m.; lake crossing and expression session, speed runs etc., to be determined; banquet and party at the Y Club at 7:30 p.m.
March 2: Free rides all day; kiter's briefing at 10:30 a.m. on Garrison Bay; Lake Crossing backup and expression sessions, to be determined; awards party, raffle and prize drawings at 3 p.m. at the Y-Club.
Advanced registration for the event must be mailed by Feb. 25. The advance registration fee is $30, or $40 on site, which includes the welcome party, March 1 banquet and sweatshirt. Guest banquet tickets may be purchased the day of the race.
