STAPLES -- Laura Marie Sanda, age 92, died Feb. 12, 2005, at Lakewood Health Care Center, Staples. A private family gathering was held Saturday evening with Pastor A.J. Kluver officiating.
Laura was born to Otto and Marie (Lyngstad) Oak, on Aug. 28, 1912, in Folden Township, Ottertail County. She grew up and attended school in Vining. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. J.L. Drage in the Vining Lutheran Church.
On Oct. 18, 1930, she married Emil Sanda. They lived and farmed in rural Henning. After they retired in the 70s, they lived on East Battle Lake and in Harlingen, Texas. Emil passed away Jan. 24, 1994. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Henning.
Laura was a prize-winning cook who regularly entered baked goods and canned goods at county fairs and the Minnesota State Fair. She spent part of her life caring for elderly and handicapped people in her family home near Henning.
Laura is survived by a son, Donald Sanda, of Staples; and a daughter, Ellen (Earl) Jacobson, of Brooklyn Center; 10 grandchildren, John (Marcia) Sanda, of Owatonna, Karin (Todd) Luebke, of Maple Grove, Steve Sanda, of Ottertail, Tim (Janet) Sanda, of Minnetonka, Paul (Sonja) Sanda, of Edina, David (Susan) Sanda, of Minneapolis, Neal Jacobson, of Brooklyn Center, Daniel Jacobson, of Brooklyn Center, Eric Jacobson, of Pine Island, and Laura (Ed) Davids, of Brooklyn Center; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Edward, Clifford and Oscar; and seven sisters, Julia, Ragna, Mabel, Myrtle, Cora, Ruth and Nora.
