Howes backs trail funding
Rep. Larry Howes, R-Walker, is authoring legislation to allocate an additional $1 million to the snowmobile trail fund this year. The money comes from a provision in state law that reserves one penny out of every dollar of state gas tax revenue for snowmobile trail acquisition and maintenance.
The bill provides $1 million for the snowmobile grant-in-aid program that provides matching funds to local snowmobile clubs to help build new trails and maintain existing ones.
This week the legislation was approved by the House Environment Finance Committee and it will continue to move through the committee process.
