Applicants are being sought for a new school facilities advisory committee. Superintendent Bob Gross said the committee will be asked to consider three issues: Space needs, renovation possibilities and should a new auditorium be built.

The Brainerd City Council's personnel and finance committee concluded its wage talks with department heads and supervisors. It continued to recommend a 7 percent increase for city employees.

William and Henry McCollough, co-publishers of the Brainerd Daily Dispatch, attended the 22nd annual Air Force Association banquet at Ft. Snelling. Honored were the six members of the Silver Wing of World War I, one of whom is Henry McCollough, a pilot.
60 years ago (1949)
A Jeep and a Northern Pacific freight train met in a short, decisive one-punch affair Monday night. The jeep was outweighed and lost the conflict. No damage was reported to the train, which was parked, blocking Gun Club Road, when the intoxicated driver hit it.
80 years ago (1929)
A 19-year-old International Falls youth, who tramped the 130 miles from Brainerd to St. Paul over snow covered roads, and then collapsed, was arraigned on a vagrancy charge. He is being held in jail pending the arrival of his parents.
100 years ago (1909)
Another landmark passed away Saturday night when the Hoffman Building at the corner of Sixth and Laurel Streets was totally destroyed by fire.
