The Lakes Area Youth Soccer Association is sponsoring winter soccer clinics on Sundays in the gym at the Franklin Arts Center.
The clinic, which will run through April, is split into three age groups as well as offering specialized goalie training. Cost is $50.
Goalkeepers and ages 8-11 will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m., U-12, U-14, U-15, U-17 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
The recreational program that began last summer will be offered again this summer for youths ages 6 to 10. The program is an option for younger players to learn the game, improve skills and have fun.
The summer travel program is an option for competitive players. At tournaments, LAYSA teams have an opportunity to play high caliber clubs, many from the metro area.
Winter and summer programs that LAYSA offers have contributed to the success of the varsity girls' and boys high school soccer teams. The majority of varsity players were on LAYSA teams.
LAYSA supports the middle and high school soccer teams. The association has made a monetary commitment to Warrior Way Inc. in the hope these programs may continue in lieu of budget cuts.
LAYSA's goal is to sponsor a summer tournament and potentially have dedicated indoor and outdoor soccer fields.
Registration is under way for LAYSA summer traveling teams.
The travel program is for 9- to 17-year-olds who want to participate in a competitive soccer league. Practice begins in April and runs through the end of the June (unless your team chooses to play in the Eden Prairie Cup). LAYSA teams will participate in four out of town tournaments.
The association is in the process of forming teams and will be finalizing teams by March 10. Register early so your child will be assured a spot on a team.
Registration may be completed on line at www.laysasoccer.org. The fee is $200 per player and may be paid online via credit card or via mail with a check.
Questions may be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
