Flyers land in second place

MOORHEAD -- The Little Falls Flyers wrestling team's march through the Section 8, Class 3A tournament came to an end Saturday in a 44-23 loss to the Bemidji Lumberjacks in the championship match.

The Flyers picked up a pin from Troy Biermaier at 135-pounds and a technical fall from Jason Brill at 103.

But the Lumberjacks received pins at four consecutive weight classes, 171, 189, 215 and heavyweight to outdistance themselves from Little Falls.

The Flyers beat Moorhead 49-16 in the quarterfinals and Sauk Rapids-Rice 55-16 in the semifinals. Ted Wilczek (125) and Aaron Olson (215) picked up two pins apiece in the wins.

STAPLES -- The Aitkin Gobblers wrestling team were led by B.J. Wasserzieher's 6-0 win at 140-pounds and Johnathon Arness' 6-0 victory at 160 but still fell to the Perham Yellowjackets 30-18 in the semifinal round of the Section 7, Class 2A tournament Saturday.
