Jaycees' Extravaganza raises record $206,440 for area charities

A record $206,440 will be donated to local charities this year from proceeds raised during the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza.

Camp Confidence will receive 70 percent of the proceeds, said Bob Slaybaugh, promotions coordinator for the Extravaganza, and about 70 other area organizations will receive between $250 to $5,000.

"It's great," said Slaybaugh. "The members feel so good when the donations come down, it motivates. Already plans are being made for next year's tournament."

Ticket sales provide the bulk of the proceeds, Slaybaugh said, and when the bills are paid, the rest of the money raised goes to the charities.

The previous donation record of $204,458 was set in 2001.
