FERGUS FALLS -- The Central Lakes College Raiders men's basketball team defeated the Fergus Falls Spartans Saturday 81-78 in a Northern Division game Saturday.
Sophomore co-captain Dwayne Mabon gave the Raiders the spark they needed.
"Mabon put on a show and carried the team in the second quarter," said Raiders coach Jim Russell.
Mabon ended up with a team-high 27 points, making 10 of 13 free throws. He also had eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Others contributing to the Raiders' victory were Eric Dreissig and Lance Redetzke who both scored 11 points, and Ernest Nortey who had nine rebounds.
The Raiders were down by 24 points in the second half when Aaron Otteson hit a huge three-pointer.
Down the stretch, Nortey came up with big rebounds that led to Fergus Falls fouls sending him to the line. At the line, Nortey connected on six of his eight shots and clinched the victory for the Raiders.
The Raiders are one of only three teams who have beaten the Spartans in their home gym this season. Until midseason this year, the Spartans were on a 41-game home win streak that spanned more than five years.
"This was a great team win," said Russell. "The guys were determined and kept their composure in a very tough atmosphere to pull off a victory. The team played great overall. Everyone played their role well, they communicated, shot well from the field, totaled 20 assists and didn't force any three-pointers.
"We were fortunate to make our shots down the stretch and make the critical plays to come out on top."
