Cardinals roll past Fergus Falls

FERGUS FALLS -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals defeated the Fergus Falls Otters 64-53 Saturday in a non-conference boys basketball game.

Jeff Brever lead the Cardinals in scoring with 20, and teammate Wade Christensen followed with 18. Also scoring in double figures for the Cardinals was Dustin Hjelmeland who had 12 points.

Christensen and Brever also had 13 and eight rebounds respectively.

The Cardinals fought back from being down 41-28 at half-time, to outscore the Otters 36-12 in the second half and pull off a victory.

"The team fought back well to defeat a good team on their floor," said coach Lynn Peterson.

The Cardinals improve to 15-1 overall and remain 6-0 in the Mid-State Conference. The Cardinals will host Detroit Lakes on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

DULUTH -- Five Duluth Central players scored in double figures as the Trojans beat the Little Falls Flyers 78-55 in a non-conference boys basketball game Saturday.

Louis Knox led Central with 20 points. Pete Singler and Jason Williams scored 18 apiece, Brian Gray had 12 and Dana Rock 10. Nick Dahl led the Flyers (8-8) with 15 points.
