20 years ago (1980)

Tina Faber, rolling a 670 to win the singles and teaming with Bea Sechser for a 1,244 to capture the doubles title, walking off with a major portion of the Brainerd Women's Bowling Assn. City tournament prize money this season.

30 years ago (1970)

Employment in January stood at 483 more than during the same month a year ago, despite a drop of 109 from December. The total number unemployed during January was 6,066 compared to 5,583 during January of 1969.

40 years ago (1960)

Brainerd's City Council debated the perennial problem of where to locate a steam locomotive gift of the Northern Pacific Railway Company.

60 years ago (1940)

"Every man should be proud of the city in which he lives and should so live that the city shall also be proud he lives there." Eloquent words are those of Abraham Lincoln. Their expression by Gerald Pratt, speaker of the inaugural meeting of the Brainerd Civic Association, were fitting and timely, too.

80 years ago (1920)

Iver Hagen has bought the interests of Walter Dixon and the firm of Walter Dixon and Hagen has been dissolved and Mr. Hagen will continue the business alone. He will do a general automobile repair business at the Bane Auto. Co. location.

100 years ago (1900)

-- Mr. George Britton will, this week, change his place of abode to the former residence of Mr. Stearns.
