Warriors fall to Grand Rapids

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Posted: Wednesday, February 13, 2008

GRAND RAPIDS - Ashley Runge poured in 26 points to lead the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks past the Brainerd Warriors 49-45 in non-conference girls' basketball Tuesday.

"Runge got out and got some breakaway baskets on us and took it to the basket a few times," Warriors coach Carl Hendrickson said. "Along with that she hit a couple threes and was 8-for-8 at the free throw line. That was big, especially down the stretch when we had to foul a little bit."

Emily Thesing had 10 points, Tess Rahto nine and Karlye Barron eight for Brainerd. Megan Bates added six points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors.

"We really had a lot of good looks at the basket," Hendrickson said. "We just couldn't get someone to knock the ball in the hoop consistently for us. That really hurt us."
