Belva L. Mehaffey
Belva LaVerne Mehaffey, 105, Brainerd, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Belva was born Jan. 13, 1902, in Massena, Iowa. Her parents were Charles A. and Maude (Williams) Harris. She married Scott Bailey Mehaffey on Oct. 19, 1922, in Red Oak, Iowa. He preceded her in passing on April 4, 1960. They were residents of Brainerd since 1927.
She is survived by her two children, Patricia Cain, Brainerd, and John Mehaffey, Naples, Fla.; also four grandchildren, Melinda (Cain) Kessel, Brainerd, Mark, Scott and Chris Mehaffey, Antioch, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Jared and Logan Kessel, St. Cloud, and Lance, Justin and Ryan Mehaffey, Antioch, Ill.; and three great-great-grandchildren, Hailey, Madison and Ethan Kessel; also survived by her sister, Florence Templeman, Atlantic, Iowa; and two brothers, Marvin Harris, Corning, Iowa, and Donovan Harris, Rock Island, Ill.
She was the longest living member of Park United Methodist Church and Degree of Honor. She was a longtime member of Rebecca Lodge.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Woodland Good Samaritan Village Chapel with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the Woodland Chapel.
