PINE RIVER -- The Cabin Fever Day for Women, sponsored by Pine River-Backus Community Education, will feature a variety of workshops, a motivational speaker, live music, luncheon and displays and vendors from the community.
The event will run 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Pine River-Backus School Commons in Pine River.
There will be 14 different workshops, including aromatherapy, ear candling (an ancient, natural way to cleanse the ears), " 'Felt' Like It" (felt project and history), reflexology, book club, how-to skin care and coloring, "The Reality of Your Dreams," journaling, beaded healing bracelet project, "Intro to Weight and Fitness Training," "Chef Gourmet in a Matter of Minutes," natural care for you, your family and the environment, "Bodacious Woman: the care and feeding of your soul," and Reiki Bodywork. There also will be an "On Your Honor Book Exchange." Participants can bring a book, or two or more, and exchange them for an equal number of "new" books.
The keynote speaker will be Linda Johnson of Grand Rapids, who will speak on knowing, being and doing who you are. She is a writer and cartoonist, teaches self-defense and Tai Chi, has built two log cabins and has played elephant polo in the Himalayas. She also will lead a workshop on living your dreams.
Participants will receive lunch, and pianist Nina Burke of Hackensack will provide music. There will be displays, and Whispering Pines Good Samaritan staff will offer paraffin hand baths.
