AITKIN -- Blanche J. MacDonald, 90, Aitkin, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin.
She was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Aitkin Township to Jonathan and Leah (Trombley) Welton. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1929. She worked as an operator for the telephone company in Aitkin and then as a bookkeeper. In 1943, she moved to Fresno, Calif., and worked at Rork Airplane Factory. She then worked on the Alaskan Pipeline, spending time at Dawson Creek, B.C., Canada and Fairbanks, Alaska. She then worked at the Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash. She returned to Aitkin in 1945 and began working at the school as a bookkeeper. She married Warren MacDonald on Jan. 12, 1948, in Nashau, Iowa. She also worked for First National Bank of Aitkin and for the Wright Hatchery. She worked as a bookkeeper for Gretschmann Trucking for several years. She had served as a Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader, chaired the Red Cross swimming lessons for a number of years, had been active on the local PTA, the Aitkin Bowling Association and was currently serving on the Residence Council at Riverwood Extended Care Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Gretschmann, Aitkin, and Catherine MacDonald, Aitkin; and two grandchildren.
Her husband, five brothers and five sisters died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aiktin with the Rev. Mark Marston officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Lakeview Cemetery in Aitkin.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
