20 years ago (1990)

The largest bond issue referendum ever put to voters in Crow Wing County takes place tomorrow and expects to draw a heavy turnout. The board is asking to spend $5.9 million on building renovation, $14.1 million on a junior high and $5.5 million on an auditorium.

30 years ago (1980)

(Edit.) A long-awaited milestone is approaching for the Crow Wing County Historical Society. Within days the group will begin renovating the old county jail and turning it into a museum. Rotary Club has launched a drive to raise the needed $265,000.

40 years ago (1970)

A group of Pelican Lake area residents are launching a campaign to establish a watershed district that would keep lake levels constant. Channels would divert water from Whitefish to Pelican, from there to Lake Edward and from Edward to North Long.

60 years ago (1950)

When Brainerd meets Brainerd - things happen. Mrs. Lloyd Lindquist, Long Beach, Calif., a former resident of Brainerd, suffered minor injuries when struck by a car. Driver of the vehicle that hit her was a Mrs. Bill Brainerd, of Long Beach.

80 years ago (1930)

John Ernster, of Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, sent his best wishes to his friends in Brainerd and the county when renewing his subscription to the Brainerd Dispatch. He says two hotels are being constructed in Hollywood at $5 million each.

100 years ago (1910)

The indications that 1910 will be a banner year for Brainerd are becoming more noticeable every day. It is practically certain that four brick blocks will be built this summer, and it is said there is a good find of high grade ore near Crow Wing.
