20 years ago (1989)

Jackie Bye was perched on a seat of honor, which happened to be made of snow and ice, Saturday as she rode atop the Miss Nisswa float in the Winter Jubilee Parade. She was crowned Miss Nisswa on Friday night.

30 years ago (1979)

Fire ravaged an apartment in Breezy Point Resort's historic Fawcett House early Sunday morning. The occupant, the resort's reservations manager, awakened to find a chair on fire in the living room. Jim Harmon, resort manager, said the damage was repairable.

40 years ago (1969)

U. S. Air Force Airman First Class James F. Elg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Evald Elg, has been recognized for helping his unit earn an award as the best security police squadron in the Strategic Air Command. He is stationed at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota.

60 years ago (1949)

The Brainerd Booster Day caravan, over 300 strong, left today for the field house at the University of Minnesota. They will watch the Gophers take to the hardwoods against Iowa, but more importantly, to see their Brainerd hero, Whitey Skoog, in action.

80 years ago (1929)

Governor Christianson has signed an order for an open 10-day season for muskrat from March 1 to March 10. The order came after a survey of the number of muskrats, conducted by George McCullough, fish and game commissioner.

100 years ago (1909)

Despite commending rigid enforcement of the dog killing regulations due to rabies, the dogs are left lying sometimes for days. The Dispatch has been informed that some dogs are being hauled out beyond the ice house and dumped in the brush.
