ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Levi Doty Gage will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Gary Benson officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gage, 83, of Rochester, has lived at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Preston for the past three and a half years, and died there of respiratory complications following a lengthy illness. He died Feb. 10, 2004.
Levi Doty Gage was born Nov. 11, 1920, in Elgin, Iowa. On Nov. 27, 1940, he married Alberta Lucine Stockman of Postville, Iowa. He drove milk truck in Iowa for Arlington Maquokata Creamery before moving to Rochester in 1962. He drove truck over the road until 1969. From 1969 to 1982 he managed the Imperial Service Station in Rochester and drove taxi part time for several years. After retiring he worked part time at Rainbow Foods in the Crossroads shopping center. He served with the 71st Army 5th Division in Germany from 1942 to 1945 and was a member of the VFW in Oronoco and Legion Post No. 0573 in Elgin.
His family includes his wife; eight sons, Jimmie (deceased) (Linda) of Dubuque, Iowa, Robert (Mardene) of West Union, Iowa, Mickey (Bonnie) of New Hampton, Iowa, Irvin (April) of Rochester, John (Marie) of Macomb, Ill., Tony (Kathy) of Brainerd, Gilbert of Pine City, Minn., Jerome (deceased); five daughters, Roberta Braaten of Rochester, Rachel Gage of Rochester, Joyce (Steve) Fenske of Byron, Brenda (Mark) Vokovich of Moose Lake, Wis., Lisa (Steve) Roelofs of Rochester; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother Jay of Yuba City, Calif.; and two sisters, Lena (Wayne) Schictl of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Katie Koons of West Union, Iowa. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sons.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service Friday at Zumbro Lutheran Church.
