Mille Lacs Kathio State Park will host its annual Candlelight Ski event from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday
Participants are invited to ski by the light of the moon with candle luminaries to help guide the way. Ski rental is available at the park on a first-come, first-served basis, and a shuttle bus will run continuously between the trail center and interpretive center.
In case of continued poor snow conditions, a candlelight hike event will be held on a 2-mile walking loop from the park's interpretive center. Refreshments will be served at the interpretive center, and a small bonfire will be lighted at the council ring next to the building.
Volunteers responsible for setting up and running this annual event include Mille Lacs Academy, Friends of the Rum River, and numerous area individuals.
There is no charge for the candlelight event. A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks. For more information, call the park office (320) 532-3523. Mille Lacs Kathio State Park is located eight miles north of Onamia.
