Brainerd High School dominated the Paul Bunyan Speech Tourney sponsored by the Brainerd Elks Lodge at the high school. Duluth Denfield placed second among the 35 teams participating, with more than 500 students competing in 11 events.

About 25 Brainerd businessmen and property owners responded to Mayor George Bedard's invitation and attend a meeting with six councilmen to discuss the ills of downtown. The often discussed need for more parking got most of the attention.

Continuing to defy the laws of average, Brainerd's Warriors smashed Detroit Lakes 59-43 to win their 18th game in 19 starts this season. Jim Smith led scoring with 20 points, while Jerry Hill had his best night of the season, dropping in 13 points.

After taking six games in a row the Brainerd basketball Warriors were pushed out of the win column by virtue of their defeat at Crosby-Ironton last Friday by a score of 39-25. The game was made more difficult by both teams wearing similar colored suits.

John Boyle, who has been at the State Sanitarium at Walker for the past six months, was in the city on his way to Duluth to visit his mother. He says he is feeling well, and looks it.
