While many Minnesotans are anxious to get their taxes filed - especially if they expect a return - the high cost of tax preparation and filing can be a barrier. Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, let his constituents know about a free program for both offered by the Internal Revenue Service.

All taxpayers making less than $57,000 can visit www.IRS.gov and use the industry's top tax preparation software for free. Users get the step-by-step help they need to prepare, complete and file federal tax returns online - at no cost.

To learn more, interested persons may visit www.freefilealliance.org or also can contact Rep. Ward at (651) 296-4333 or by e-mail at rep.john.ward@house.mn.
