PEQUOT LAKES -- Eagle View Elementary School is the name of the new school in Breezy Point.
There were 287 names submitted to the Pequot Lakes School District for the elementary school in Breezy Point that will serve 750 students.
The 287 entries were reduced to four names by Lynn Hunt and David Kennedy, members of the district's Public Relations Committee; Darla Cook, a parent; Darla Terry, a teacher; and Don Lenzen, elementary school principal.
The four finalists were Eagle View, Lake Ridge, Northwoods and Patriot.
Lenzen said the group narrowed down the entries to four by looking at names that were unique and different from other schools in the state. The names were also chosen by what the group thought "looked good to them," said Lenzen.
Lenzen said many of the entries were good names. He said Eagle View Elementary School received most of the votes from students. There were five people who submitted the name of Eagle View that included community members and students, said Lenzen.
The school, located by Rice Lake in Breezy Point, is expected to open to students in January of 2004. Lenzen said entries included Rice Lake Elementary School. However, he said several schools already are named after the lake.
