PEQUOT LAKES - Chase on the Lake of Walker is offering to match funds up to $1,000 for those who donate to the Pequot Lakes Schools PTA by Feb. 19.
Chase on the Lake general manager Jamie Tatge was the person who notified the Pequot Lakes Schools PTA last week that a 31-year-old Crosslake woman and her family had paid using PTA checks to stay at his resort the previous weekend.
An investigation then began by the PTA and Pequot Lakes Police, resulting in the arrest last week of PTA co-treasurer Sarah Barnum. Barnum was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $10,000 from the PTA fund. She was charged last Thursday in Crow Wing County District Court with felony aggravated forgery and felony check forgery of $2,500 or more.
Chase on the Lake will match up to $1,000 in pledges made to the PTA. To make a pledge, visit the Chase on the Lake Facebook Web page and pledge by posting how much you will donate to the PTA. Then stop by and mail those donations to: Pequot Lakes Schools PTA, Lakes State Bank, P.O. Box 366, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472.
All pledges posted on the Chase Facebook page that are received by Lakes State Bank by 4 p.m. Feb. 19 will be matched dollar per dollar up to $1,000.
PTA President Jill Andersen said that those who would still like to help the PTA but can't afford to do so could clip Box Tops for Education, Campbell's points and collect Kemps milk caps and drop them at Eagle View Elementary School or Northern Food King in Pequot Lakes.
