Area fire crews battled two house fires in Crosby and Motley.
A Friday night fire destroyed a Motley home.
"Everybody got out OK," said Motley Fire Chief Troy Davis. "They got out right away. It was a total loss."
The fire was believed to be electrical as home occupants reported the lights grew bright and then dimmed just before smelling smoke. The home on Sunset Loop off Highway 10 just outside Motley city limits is owned by Steve Wolpert Jr.
Davis said crews were on scene until about midnight with cold temperatures making it tough on water hoses toward the end. The fire rekindled once. The one-story home with basement was believed to be an old store in the early 1900s, Davis said. The Staples Fire Department assisted at the scene.
An early morning blaze Saturday had multiple fire units battling a blaze at a large home on Black Hoof Lake near Crosby.
The Brainerd Fire Department was among those assisting the Crosby Fire Department with mutual aid at the scene. Early reports indicated a chimney fire started the blaze, which had advanced to the open cathedral ceiling in the home. Calls for assistance came in about 4 a.m. Crews were still on scene mid-morning Saturday.
