GUEST COLUMN: Ripley should be a mobilization center
It put into perspective for me what they go through to prepare for an extended time away from Minnesota. I was gone for only nine days, but these men and women are separated for over a year from their families and loved ones. They lose holidays and miss birthdays. I have seen the strains on our troops separated from their families and far away from home. I know there is more we can do to help out our men and women who are faced with the difficulty of deployment, and one solution is to make Camp Ripley a mobilization center for troops right here in Minnesota. By building this center, we have the opportunity to keep families closer together a little bit longer before they go overseas. And whether our soldiers stay a week or a few months longer, more time in Minnesota means more time with loved ones.
