The Brainerd/Little Falls Flying Warriors have been seeded seventh in the Section 8-2A tournament and will play at No. 2 Bemidji at 7 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals at Nymore Stadium.
As a result of facing Bemidji in the tournament, Tuesday's scheduled regular-season game at Brainerd against the Lumberjacks has been canceled.
In other quarterfinal games Saturday, No. 8 River Lakes will play at No. 1 Roseau, No. 5 Sartell/Sauk Rapids will play No. 4 Wright County at Monticello and the No. 6 St. Cloud Icebreakers will play at No. 3 Moorhead.
Semifinals are at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the highest seed. Championship game is 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at a neutral site.
Markert sets lifting records
Phil Markert of Lake Shore set nine Minnesota Masters state records in the Twin City Masters and Invitational weightlifting contest Jan. 30 in St. Paul.
Competing in the age 75-79 division, Markert's top lifts were 60 pounds in the snatch and 71 pounds in the clean and jerk for 131 total pounds.
Markert has participated in organized events in each of eight decades. He plans to compete in the state meet March 27.
Area athletes help set school records
Three lakes area athletes were members of St. Scholastica track and field teams that broke school records in Saturday's Border Battle, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Joe Ohlin, sophomore from Baxter, was a member of the 4x200-meter men's hurdles team that won with a school-record time of 1:34.60.
In the women's meet, Katherine Mueller, sophomore from Brainerd, was on the 4x800 relay that broke the school record with a winning time of 10:02.13.
Jackie Thelen, freshman from Randall, set school and meet records in the 55-meter hurdles preliminaries at 8.95.
St. Scholastica will host the Lake Superior Challenge at 6 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. Saturday.
