PEQUOT LAKES -- The Pequot Lakes Patriots girls' basketball team improved to 4-1 in the Park Region Conference and 11-5 overall with a 73-42 victory over the Verndale Pirates on Friday.
Julie Redebaugh paced the Patriots with 25 points, Flecia Foster added 24 and Teresa Parker 12.
"We had two really good days of practice on Wednesday and Thursday and came out and played an outstanding first half," said Pequot coach Bill Larson.
Raya Kern and Kayla White both finished with 11 points for Verndale.

PINE RIVER -- The Pine River-Backus Tigers got off to a fast start and went on to post a 61-52 victory over the Bertha-Hewitt Bears in a Park Region Conference girls' basketball game Friday.
Chelsa Schwegel tossed in 18 points and had nine steals for PR-B and Brittany Nelson contributed 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Tigers improved to 10-8 overall.

PILLAGER --The Pillager Huskies girls' basketball team picked up its first Park Region Conference win with a 48-38 triumph over the Sebeka Trojans Friday.
Kayla Bell led the Huskies offensively with 15 points and Melissa Roberts scored 11 points and Jessie VanVickle chipped in with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

KIMBALL -- The Pierz Pioneers got edged out by the Kimball Cubs 78-72 in Central Minnesota Conference girls' basketball Friday.
Both Becky Korf and Allyson Kloss tallied double-doubles for the Pioneers. Korf finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Kloss added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Shiela Stegora added 18 points for Pierz.
"We played hard, but Kimball hit some key shots at critical times and held on to the win," said Pierz coach Rick Sczublewski.
