Riewer makes history in S-M win
STAPLES - Jordan Riewer became the all-time leading scorer in Staples-Motley Cardinals basketball history, but teammate Jon Bristow stole the show in the Cardinals 73-52 victory over the Minneapolis Washburn Millers Saturday.
Jordan Riewer
Bristow led all scorers with 22 points. Riewer added 17 and Derek Wolhowe knocked down three 3-pointers to finish with 15 as the Cardinals jumped out early on the defending Class 3A state champions.
"We've had a couple good weeks now where we had the tough stretch of road games and went to Pequot Friday and they gave us their best shot," said Cardinals head coach Lynn Peterson. "Then we bounced back Saturday night against a team that is going to be getting better by the end of the year. They're quickness will give teams a lot of trouble.
"We got up 16 or 17 points early, but then they roared back, picked our pockets a few times and real quick cut that to eight or 10. We were able to get control again, thankfully."
Riewer has scored 1,764 in his five year career, 15 more than Eric Kelly, who held the record when he graduated in 1997.
