20 years ago (1990)

(Edit.) Some people say Rep. Paul Ogren, DFL-Aitkin, is an overgrown hippie trying to push the social agenda of the 60's. Others say he's on target with a proposed constitutional amendment to mandate access to health insurance for all Minnesotans.

30 years ago (1980)

(Photo) Vandals defaced a sign located by the Brainerd Chamber office proclaiming Brainerd's water as the world's best drink. The vandals spray-painted the original sign and placed another over it, saying Contaminated, a response to yesterday's fluoridation.

40 years ago (1970)

Triumphs by Mike and Mark Herron, Joey Kretzman and light heavyweight Al Houck gave Brainerd's Golden Glovers a share of the sectional title with Little Falls. The latter won four divisions, including Joe Witucki, senior middleweight, and Rodney Bobick.

60 years ago (1950)

80 years ago (1930)

Harry A. Burt, proprietor of Burt's Lunch, entered a plea of guilty in district court and was fined $50 or 40 days. He paid the fine. Burt was accused of forcefully ejecting a New York coffee salesman from his business and blackening both his eyes.

100 years ago (1910)

W. H. Koop, the popular proprietor of the Unique Theatre, is lying at the point of death from typhoid fever at St. Joseph's hospital. Koop is exceptionally popular and his condition cast a gloom over the business section of the city.
