Council OKs bond sales to pay for water treatment facility

BAXTER - The Baxter City Council on Tuesday approved the sale of $6.5 million in bonds to pay for a water treatment facility.

The bonds will be paid with local sales tax revenue.

In other action, the council:

Were given an update by Public Works Director Trevor Walter on the possibility of silent whistle railroad crossings in Baxter.

Mayor Darrel Olson said the council was informed that every crossing in Baxter would need to be a silent crossing if the city pursued the plan, and the city of Brainerd might need to be a partner, too.

Set the joint city council and Utilities Commission meeting for the Capital Improvement Plan at 6 p.m. Feb. 7.

Directed staffers to draft an ordinance that requires ground cover, tree allocation and a security deposit for incomplete landscaping in residentially zoned properties.

Approved the posting for an assistant police chief position within the department.
