PILLAGER - Cayla Collison and Megan Hejhal each scored 19 points to help the Verndale Pirates end a three-game losing streak with a 59-52 victory over the Pillager Huskies in Park Region Conference girls' basketball Tuesday.

Stephanie Dailey scored 12 points, Kelsey Booth grabbed 10 rebounds and Collison added six steals as the Pirates earned a season sweep over Pillager.

Amy Fredman had 13 points, Megan Carlson had eight assists and Rachel Sebasky had 10 rebounds to lead the Huskies.

CROSBY - Annie Adams led all scorers with 12 points to go with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots as the Crosby-Ironton Rangers avenged an earlier loss to the Staples-Motley Cardinals 40-33 Tuesday in Mid-State Conference girls' basketball.

In the first meeting between the two rivals, S-M topped C-I before Christmas break 57-54.

C-I's Betsy Wehseler added nine points and nine rebounds for Class 2A's 10th-ranked Rangers, who won their third straight and improved to 15-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference

S-M's Caitlin Robinson hit three 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 11 points as the Cardinals dropped to 8-11 and 5-3 in the conference.

AITKIN - Emily Mehr scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Aitkin Gobblers as they defeated the Ogilvie Lions 65-62 in a Great River Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday.

Laura Wagner and Katie Olson each added 11 points for the Gobblers as they snapped their three-game losing streak and swept the season series over the conference-leading Lions.

REMER - Taylor Sheley poured in 16 points while collecting seven assists and six steals to help the Pine River-Backus Tigers overcome the Northland Eagles 43-39 in non-conference girls' basketball Tuesday.

Naomi Anderson finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers who improved to 11-8.
