The Sertoma Clubs of Brainerd Scholarship Committee has voted to award its first Central Lakes College scholarship to Savannah Karasch of Brainerd.

Her award is $500 for the current spring term.

To be eligible for this scholarship a student must be attending the second semester and have demonstrated scholastic ability and community involvement.

Karasch, a second-year student at CLC, is pursuing a degree in social work. She would like to work with teenagers who are chemically dependent and who have parents with chemical dependencies. She has done much community work including volunteering at Riverside and Lowell elementary schools, where she works with pupils who have learning disabilities.

She is a 2002 Brainerd High School graduate.
