Posted: Saturday, February 06, 2010

PINE RIVER - Katie Wangberg scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers to a 62-36 victory over Clearbrook-Gonvick in a Northwoods Conference game Friday.

"Defensively, we did a good job on them, holding them to 36 points as they've been scoring in the 70s a lot," said Tigers coach Randy Schwegel. "Katie had a great game. She was the beneficiary of a lot of passes from (Tatum) Sheley and Hannah Lemberg."

Sheley added 15 points and Wangberg had eight steals.

The Tigers were credited with two conference wins, upping their league mark to 10-0 while the "double loss" leaves Clearbrook-Gonvick 7-3. This system is in effect when teams play each other once instead of a home and away series.
