The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers announced Thursday the hiring of Ryan Levendoski as its 2009 Northwoods League field manager.
Levendoski will enter his third season in the league, his first as a field manager. Levendoski was an assistant with the Thunder Bay Border Cats in 2007 and helped lead the Mankato MoonDogs in 2008 as an assistant to its first-playoff appearance in team history.
"I'm excited to have an opportunity to be a field manager in the league, and I really think Brainerd is an up and coming franchise," Levendoski said in a news release. "This is a great organization and I can't wait to get up to Brainerd and spend my summer in the lakes area."
Levendoski's passion for the league and past experience was the reason why Lunkers owner Joel Sutherland turned to Levendoski.
"I wanted a leader first and foremost and a guy who has had league experience," Sutherland said. "Ryan is a proven guy and it's real important to have your head guy know the ropes from league travel to player involvement."
Levendoski's coaching experience includes seven years as head coach of the Genoa-De Soto-Stoddard American Legion Program. In 2002, the Stoddard (Wis.) native guided the Legion team to a Class A state championship and third-place finish in the Division II Midwest National Tournament.
Currently, he is head coach of Western Technical College in LaCrosse, Wis. He has a bachelor of arts in social sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He received his masters in sport administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the spring of 2007.
Levendoski and Sutherland will begin to fill the Lunkers' roster in preparation for the 2009 season.
