Two hearses were damaged this weekend in a garage cave-in behind Fronteer Directory Co. on Laurel Street. The roof collapsed under the weight of snow that had accumulated, smashing the two hearses.

The Crow Wing County Board gave the go-ahead for a sewage system needs assessment study for the cities of Nisswa, Lake Shore, East Gull Lake and Unorganized Territory. Nisswa Mayor Joe Kaspar estimated the study would cost $73,000.

Funeral services for Rep. Frank Johnson, former mayor of Brainerd, will be held Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He had been excused from service in the Legislature only days ago due to illness. He died Saturday of an apparent heart attack.

Leonard Steinbach is alleged to have sold liquor to William Anderson, who is now in county jail charged with assault upon his father-in-law, John Hughes. Anderson testified he couldn't identify who he bought the liquor from as he was already under the influence.
100 years ago (1909)
The engine on the westbound time freight died three miles east of Deerwood and it was necessary to send a switch engine to bring it in. It arrived four hours late.
