SuperShots competition scheduled for Feb. 16

The Brainerd Jaycees are sponsoring a SuperShots basketball competition from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Brainerd Family YMCA.

The event is for boys and girls in grades 4-9. Three winners from each age group move on to compete at a Timberwolves game.

Golden Gloves Boxing Saturday at Wadena

Twelve bouts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wadena Armory.

Boxers from Wadena, Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes, Brainerd, St. Cloud and Leech Lake will compete.

A double main event finds Wadena's DeWayne Steward, 175 pounds, against J.R. Robinson, Leech Lake, and Tyler Hultin, 168, Fergus Falls, will box Eric Dahlheimer of St. Cloud.

Other Wadena boxers on the card include Trent and Travis Petro, Albert Boldt, Colter Ehrmantraut, Billy Flecher, Jana Brueninger, Chris Steward and Elliot Sandberg.

Sophomore boys win

Brainerd defeated Moorhead 51-37 in sophomore boys' basketball Saturday.

Joel Martin scored 11 points, Karl Freudenberg 10 and Thomas Fairbanks nine for the Warriors.

Conference honors Dean

Brainerd's Jimmy Dean has been named the Central Lakes Conference boys' Nordic skiing performer of the week ending Feb. 2.

Dean, a sophomore, had his personal-best classic time at the Bemidji pursuit event.

JV team competes

The Brainerd Warriors defeated Grand Rapids in junior varsity gymnastics Tuesday.

Rebecca Westafer won the vault and floor exercise, Shana Lingwall won the uneven bars and Rebecca Walker won the beam for Brainerd.
