ROBBINSDALE - The driver of a vehicle that went off Crow Wing County Road 4 and collided with a tree Jan. 29, injuring all four people inside, remains hospitalized at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
Joshua Johnson, 25, Brainerd, was reported in fair condition by a hospital spokesman Monday. He had transferred from St. Cloud Hospital to North Memorial Medical Center.
Joshua Johnson's wife, Sheena Johnson, 25, also was transported to North Memorial Medical Center following the crash. On Saturday a hospital spokesman said she had died as a result of her injuries.
Two other passengers in the car, Kevin Porter, 32, and Charles Palmer, 27, also suffered injuries in the accident. Porter was treated at North Memorial Medical Center and released this past weekend. Palmer was transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. The hospital had no information on his condition.
Lutheran school activities planned
BAXTER - The Family of Christ Lutheran School will host a preschool and kindergarten open house from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the school, 6785 Woida Road, Baxter.
Those interested can meet the teachers, check out the classrooms and ask questions.
Winter fun day will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the gym with an all-school assembly.
Special guests will be speaking on various topics from 10-11 a.m.
The Parent-Teacher League will be serving lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m.
After lunch, kids can play basketball, moon walk, board games or crafts in the conference room or movies in the library.
Students are not required to wear their uniforms. Casual appropriate clothing is OK. Weather permitting, those interested can bring a sled or outdoor toys.
Winter fun day will conclude at the normal dismissal time of 2:45 p.m.
BHS one-act places fourth at sections
Brainerd High School drama students took fourth place Saturday at the Section 8-2A one-act play competition in Alexandria.
Drama director Audra Albrecht said this was the first time Brainerd qualified to compete in sections in at least 10 years. Albrecht said competing in sections gave the students a chance to perform on a spectacular stage and to experience tournament competition.
"It was a positive experience builder," she said.
Brainerd's one-act play was on "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
Head Start now accepting applications
Tri-County Community Action Inc. Head Start is now accepting applications for enrollment of income eligible families with a 3-or 4-year-old child for the 2007-2008 school year.
Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that provides educational and social experiences. Head Start focuses on parent involvement as the primary influence in a child's education.
TCC serves families in all of Todd, Morrison and Crow Wing counties with classroom or home-based programs. There is no cost for eligible families.

Crime free housing training planned
BAXTER - The Baxter Police Department will host a Crime Free Multi-Housing Management training from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Baxter City Hall.
The training is in conjunction with the introduction of the Crime Free Multi-Housing program in the city of Baxter and is open to rental property owners, managers and leasing staff.
The training will include topics such as applicant screening; rental agreements; the eviction process; identifying and reporting illegal activity; and working with police, fire and housing code enforcement.
The training satisfies the first phase requirements of the Crime Free program. The cost is $20. To register, visit or call the Baxter Police Department at 454-5090 before Thursday.
Jaycees win awards, name board members
The Brainerd Jaycees recently earned regional awards in the Region 2 competition with Aitkin, Bemidji and Blackduck.
The following individual awards were given out for the final quarter of the year to the Brainerd Jaycees: Cori Wrobel, Gold Membership Vice President; Jerry Swanson, Gold State Delegate; Julie Sedlachek, Silver Individual Vice President; Mary Devine, Gold Management Vice President; Ron Meyer, Gold President; Sara Thompson, Gold Public Relations Vice President; Shane and Carissa Meyer, New Jaycees of the Quarter; Taylor Fitterer, Jaycee of the Quarter.
The Brainerd Jaycees chapter received the following awards for projects: BIR beer sales, Gold Management Project; Crow Wing County Sheriff's Election Presentation, Gold ID Project; Distinguished Service Awards Banquet, Gold PR Project; Kids' Halloween Party, Gold Membership Project; Senior Tour of Lights, Gold Community Project. The Brainerd Jaycees were named the Gold Chapter of the Quarter.
Year-end awards were also given out including: Individual Development Vice President of the Year, Julie Sedlachek; Management Vice President of the Year, Mary Devine; Membership Vice President of the Year, Cori Wrobel; New Jaycees of the Year, Shane and Carissa Meyer; President of the Year, Ron Meyer; Public Relations Vice President of the Year, Sara Thompson; State Delegate of the Year, Jerry Swanson.
The Brainerd Jaycees were named the Chapter of the Year.
Mary Devine received a Presidential Medallion from Minnesota Jaycee President Josh Bohmbach.
