The Brainerd High School orchestras will present a benefit concert for the Brainerd Kinship Partners Program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Tornstrom Auditorium, Washington Middle School, Brainerd.
All money donated at the door will go to the area Kinship Partners Program.
Two BHS orchestras with 100 string players will perform orchestral masterpieces from five countries representing more than 300 years of musical composition.
The sinfonia orchestra, a 60-member string orchestra, will open the concert with the "Finale to Tschaikowsky's Symphony No. 2" followed by two pieces by American composer William Hofeldt and "Pagodas" by American composer Richard Meyer, and Palladio, "The Diamond Song" by American composer Karl Jenkins.
Heather Mastel-Lipson will perform a solo.
The chamber orchestra, a 40-piece string group, will then take the stage to perform the "Concerto for Harpsichord, Violin and Flute" by Johann Sebastian Bach. Next, Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi's "Spring Violin Concerto" will be performed.
The chamber orchestra will premiere the "String Serenade" by Minneapolis composer Gregory Theisen. This serenade was written with a highly skilled string group in mind and is dedicated to the BHS Chamber Orchestra. The concert will conclude with the "Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet and String Orchestra" by Edward Elgar.
