LaVallee, John place fifth, seventh

Levi LaValle of Longville and Trevor John of Crosslake finished fifth and seventh in the ESPN X Games VII Snocross final on Butterfield Mountain in Aspen, Colo., Sunday.

Blair Morgan on a Ski Doo won his third consecutive final. LaValle was racing a Polaris and John was racing an Arctic Cat.

Mike Schultz of Fort Ripley finished 19th overall. He placed fourth twice and sixth once in qualifying rounds. He missed advancing to the semifinals by one point.

LAYSA schedules meeting

Lakes Area Soccer Association will meet 6 p.m. Sunday at Lord of Life Church in Baxter.

Summer registration will be conducted followed at 7 p.m. by a LAYSA board meeting.

Soccer registration is open for youths ages 9-18. For additional information, contact Lynne at 825-0894.

Ski Gull hosts Alpine junior event

The Alpine Ski Club at Ski Gull hosted the fifth race in the Northland Junior Series last weekend.

More than 60 racers competed from Giants Ridge, Duluth Superior and Ski Gull Alpine clubs.

The next race is scheduled Sunday at Spirit Mountain.

Girls 6-7 -- 1-Savannah Stone, 4-Beth Etterman, 5-Hannah Moen, 6-Clair LePage, 7-Molly Aga.

Boys 6-7 -- 1-Taylor Halverson.

Ruttger to speak to boosters club

Brainerd Warriors Alpine skiing coach Jim Ruttger will be the speaker at the Brainerd Sports Boosters Club meeting, which begins noon Thursday at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen, located at 923 Oak St. between the Triangle Store and Temple Baptist Church.

Gymnast Katie Perpich, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.

JV hockey team loses to Alexandria

Alexandria defeated the Brainerd Warriors 4-2 in junior varsity boys' hockey Tuesday.

Conrad Kragness and Vinson Stamm had the Warrior goals. Niklas Oldeen had two assists and Kragness one. Goalie Jason LaDouceur made 17 saves.

W-DC fundraiser set for Dykhoff

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines boys' basketball team will host a fund-raising dinner for former teammate Kyle Dykhoff, who has non-Hodgkins lymphoma, in the high school cafeteria 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
