The Student Senate at Central Lakes College, Brainerd and Staples, will provide transportation to the Feb. 12 rally at the State Capitol.
Higher education Rally Day will begin at noon at St. Paul Technical College and continue with a march to the Capitol at 1 p.m., concluding in the rotunda of the Capitol by 3 p.m.
The bus will leave at 9 a.m. from the front door of the college in Brainerd on Feb. 12, said Jake Hood, president of the campus senate.
"We will be speaking with our legislators about the thousands of dollars to be cut from our school, something which will affect everyone," Hood said.
Hood said $22.7 million of what was appropriated last year to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities was taken back as a result of the state budget deficit. He said the result was increased tuition for students attending CLC.
"If double-digit increases continue, enrollment could drop across the state due to sticker-shock," Hood said.
He said organizers from the two statewide student organizations hope for about 5,000 at the rally. More than 2,000 attended last year. The organizers are the Minnesota State College Student Association and the Minnesota State University Student Association.
The rally also may attract high school students, said Dillon Heins, a CLC student senator. He has talked to officials at Brainerd High School, who said excused absences permitted by a parent or guardian would be processed according to district policy.
"This is important to students of all ages, as well as faculty and staff," Heins said. "We can take more than one bus if enough people sign up by the deadline, Friday, Feb. 7."
Hood and Heins estimated the local entourage would return to the Brainerd campus about 7 p.m. Feb. 12. To reserve a seat, call the Student Senate at 855-8223.
