MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- About 1,000 gallons of hydrochloric acid spilled at a printing company in northeast Minneapolis Friday night, forcing the evacuation of more than 100 workers. No one was injured.
Workers at the Bureau of Engraving Inc. reported the leak about 8 p.m. A three-alarm hazardous material scene was declared.
Fire officials said a 1-inch pipe on a 4,700-gallon tank broke, spilling the acid. The spill was contained within the building.
Vapors that escaped through smokestacks formed a cloud outside.
