Crow Wing Township residents agreed last night that the scope of a study of future land uses for the northern portion of the township should be expanded to include the county and the city of Baxter.

Mayor George Bedard was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Brainerd Lions Club Wednesday night. He listed eight problems and city concerns which are his prime targets. Included are new industry, the downtown problem, the preservation of the old Water Tower, bus service, southeast drainage, etc.

Brainerd High School's Debate team won first place in the regional tournament Saturday and are now eligible to compete in the State Tournament Feb. 20. The Brainerd teams composed of Pat Paul, Judy Sater, Linda Longfellow and Pat Wolleat, won seven debates and lost one.

-- Rudy Swelland has been on the sick list for the past three weeks due to tonsilitis.
-- J.H. Krekelberg left yesterday on a business trip to Duluth.

Because of the scarcity of power on the Northern Pacific Railway, the Brainerd railway shops have been ordered on a nine-hour basis. The men were working eight-hour days. The new schedule provides time and a half for the extra hour.
100 years ago (1900)
An annual concert of Dresskell's City Band occurred at Gardner Hall drawing a crowded house. Like the concert of last year it was a rare treat to lovers of music. Each number on the program was received with enthusiastic applause. All who attended were highly pleased.
