Smith leads Brainerd to second place in CLC

SARTELL - The Brainerd Warriors' Sam Smith earned all-conference honors in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and all-around at the Central Lakes Conference gymnastics meet Saturday.

All-conference and honorable mention were determined by a combination of individual scores obtained both during the Central Lakes Conference regular season and Saturday's meet in which the Warriors finished second with a score of 141.675.

The Little Falls Flyers took sixth out of the nine-team field with a score of 125.900.

Smith's fifth-place finish in the uneven bars with a score of 8.875 was the best finish of three Warriors in the top 10. Rebecca Westafer finished seventh (8.725) and Jenny Klabo eighth (8.675) for Brainerd in the event.

Westafer earned all-conference honorable mention in the event. The Flyers' Miranda Peterson, who finished 17th, also earned all-conference honorable mention in the event.

Little Falls' high finishers on the day were Peterson and Teri Stein, who finished 12th and 13th in the all-around standings.

In the balance beam Smith led the Warriors with a fifth-place score of 8.8. Brainerd had three other finishers in the top ten including Olivia Elsenpeter in a tie for seventh with Flyer Stein at 8.75, Rebecca Walker ninth with a 8.475 and Melissa Brown 10th with a 8.45.

Stein earned all-conference honors and Brown earned all-conference honorable mention in the event.

In the floor exercise Smith finished fourth with a score of 9.425. Kelsi Ring finished 10th for Brainerd with a 9.0. Kaisha Gomez's 18th place score of 8.625 was the best finish for Little Falls in the event.

In the vault Shana Lingwall's fifth-place finish at 9.375 helped lead her to an all-conference selection in the event. Rebecca Walker finished seventh in the event with a 9.275, Smith finished eighth with a 9.2 and Ring ninth with a 9.125, earning her all-conference honorable mention.

For Little Falls in the vault, Stein's score of 8.3 was good for 29th overall and Breanna Arndt's accomplishments during the season gave her all-conference honorable mention in the event.

The all-around results included Smith taking second with a total score of 36.3 to help her earn all-conference status. Walker finished third with a 34.225 and Ring finished eleventh with a 33.025.
