PILLAGER -- The Pillager Dollars for Scholars fund-raiser will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Pillager High School.
The event will include bluegrass music, a silent auction, services from area businesses and residents and music from the Pillager band.
Admission to the event is $4 for adults, $2 for students and preschool age and younger are free.
If anyone would like to volunteer the night of the event or wants to donate a product, a gift certificate or a service for the silent auction contact Joyce Alt, the fund-raiser chair, at 746-3819.
Awareness of child abuse, neglect at heart of ceremony
Every year, more than 11,000 children are abused and neglected in Minnesota.
The Minnesota Association of Guardians ad Litem, a non-profit organization supporting court-appointed advocates who speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children, announced it will host a Light of Hope ceremony at 3 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Minnesota Capitol Rotunda.
Legion Auxiliary offers scholarships
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 255 has several scholarships available for students pursuing education in a variety of fields.
Applications must be received by March 8.
The unit offers five scholarships, including three separate scholarships totaling $1,050 to nursing students, a $250 music scholarship and a $200 business scholarship. In addition, area students may compete for several additional scholarships dedicated to children or grandchildren of veterans, health care or post-secondary fields, Girl Scouts achievers or students returning to school after an absence.
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for the various scholarships. Applications are available at the Career Center in the Brainerd High School counselors' office and at Central Lakes College.
