A young man walked into Hardee's Restaurant last night and walked out with six hamburgers, six orders of fries - and $29 of the restaurant's money. The robber handed an employee a note demanding cash, saying he would kill her if she didn't give it to him.

John Rundberg, Brainerd, won first place in the beard growing contest held in conjunction with the Brainerd Junior College Sno-Daze Festival. Bob Gole won the mustache contest, Richard Garner, goatee and Mike Guritz, sideburns.

Schaefer's Model Food Market, located on South 6th Street will have its grand opening on Feb. 3, 4 and 5. The 4,000 square foot facility has been completely remodeled and is run by brothers John and Ted Schaefer, continuing a 50-year family tradition.

The first lutefisk supper given by the Men's Club of the Bethlehem Church last night proved a great success. Over 500 pounds of lutefisk, six bushels of potatoes and 68 pounds of butter were served. The flatbrod and lefse were delicious.
100 years ago (1909)
Charles V., a lumberjack, was sentenced to a fine of $50 or 30 days jail for stealing a watch from Peter (Pierre) DeChaine, who had taken him in when he was in need. Charles sold the watch to the night clerk at the Antlers hotel and was later arrested.
