With all of the new adult partners who have come on board during our mentor recruitment drive, many children who have been on our waiting list have found adult friends. However, just in the month of January at our Brainerd office, 13 new children have been enrolled and have been added to our waiting list. Today's "children in need" are brothers who live near the airport.
Jake and Patrick both are excited about the possibility of having an adult male to spend time with. They live with their mother and are currently staying at their uncle's home. The boys' father lives out of state. The boys began the school year living with their father, but when things didn't work out they returned to this area. Visits with Dad will take place during summer vacation.
Jake is a sixth-grader who describes himself as playful, nice, active and willing to try new activities. He loves to spend his free time playing football, going sledding and swimming. He also loves snowmobiling, woodworking, skiing and fishing. Jake is a good student and enjoys school. He's a friendly youngster who really would benefit from having an adult friend who can remain a constant in his life.
Patrick is a seventh-grader who has interests similar to his brother. In addition, he likes tennis and would like to try hunting. He describes himself as follows: "I'm outgoing, shy at first, friendly, make friends easily, kind and active." Both of the boys are open when it comes to being matched with someone. Their only requirement is that the person they are matched with enjoys doing the same kinds of activities the boys enjoy.
It couldn't be much easier than that. Befriending one of these boys will be fun for you and will make a tremendous difference in their lives. If you enjoy football, fishing, snowmobiling, sledding, etc., give us a call and we'll connect you with Jake or Patrick.
