The first checker tournament, sponsored by the St. Paul Winter Carnival Committee, was held Saturday and Monday in conjunction with a chess tournament in St. Paul. Attending from the Brainerd checker club were Henry Cunningham, Clyde Brown and Father Harry Larkin.

Approximately 8,000 pounds of used clothing were shipped from Brainerd today as the city's contribution to the used clothing drive in behalf of the destitute people in Europe.

The First National Bank has had the snow removed in front of the building, leaving the way to the curb easy for parking. The snow was hauled away by sleighs to the great open spaces.

William Bergh, a longtime resident of this county, has decided to launch a business in Brainerd. His store will be stocked with a full line of staple and fancy groceries.
