A 2-inch dusting of snowfall Sunday and a subsequent melt-off left area roads slick Monday morning.
The 2 inches of snow melted down to about 0.14 inches of precipitation, the DNR office in Brainerd reported. Sunday's high temperature in Brainerd was 15 degrees, the National Weather Service in Duluth reported.
There was one serious accident with injuries Sunday and several reports of vehicles that went into ditches throughout the weekend.
The accident with injuries happened about 3:30 p.m. on Highway 25, near 28th Street Southeast in Brainerd.
According to the Brainerd Police Department, Charles Kummer, 71, Bemidji, was eastbound on Highway 25 when his vehicle slid into the eastbound lane. Kummer's vehicle was broadsided by a vehicle driven by Mary Sweet, 63, Brainerd.
Kummer, Sweet and a passenger in Kummer's vehicle, Ruth Kummer, 69, Bemidji, were transported by North Ambulance to St. Joseph's Medical Center. Information on their conditions was unavailable Monday.
Throughout the weekend, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department responded to about six vehicles in ditches, but no accidents with injuries. The State Patrol also responded to numerous reports of vehicles in ditches, but no accident with injuries Sunday and Monday.
From 4-8 a.m. on Tuesday the Brainerd Street Department will be removing snow on Oak Street, from South Sixth Street to Walnut Street. Parking is prohibited on Oak Street during the hours it is to be plowed. Vehicles will be towed at the owners' expense.
The NWS in Duluth is forecasting a 20-30 percent chance of light snow throughout Monday with high temperatures between 10-15 degrees. On Tuesday high temperatures will be 2-7 degrees.
Two hurt in sled crash
HILLMAN -- Two people were injured Sunday in a snowmobile accident in Richardson Township in Morrison County, near Hillman.
The accident happened about 3:38 p.m., the Morrison County Sheriff's Department reported.
Rodney Hayes, 50, Hillman, was driving on a trail when he hit a tree, the sheriff's department reported. Two of his passengers, Katelyn Hayes, 3, and Vanessa Black, 7, both of Hillman, were injured. Katelyn Hayes and Black were transported to Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia. Information on their conditions was unavailable Monday.
Rodney Hayes wasn't injured.
